Do Collagen Creams Work?
Yes, as a moisturizer: collagen in a cream holds water at the skin's surface, helping skin look smoother and plumper. How it does that depends on the size of the molecule. Native and soluble collagen are far too large to cross intact skin, so they stay on the surface as a film that locks in moisture. Hydrolyzed collagen is collagen cut into small peptides, and some of it reaches the skin's outer layer, where it helps hold water.
Collagen in a cream does not replace the collagen your skin makes itself. That is where signal peptides come in: Matrixyl® 3000 and copper peptide GHK-Cu are associated with the skin's own collagen activity, and both have clinical results on wrinkles. Our Matrixyl 3000 Pro-Collagen Firming Cream contains both: three forms of collagen, and the two Matrixyl 3000 peptides behind that clinical work.

What Peptides Did in Clinical Studies

Before
After 2 months
Deep-wrinkle area −39% in 2 months (manufacturer's half-face study)
Matrixyl 3000
Deep-Wrinkle Area −39% in 2 Months
In the manufacturer's half-face study, 23 women aged 42 to 67 applied a 3% Matrixyl 3000 cream to one half of the face and a placebo cream to the other, twice a day for 2 months.
- Area taken up by deep wrinkles −39%, measured by 3D skin-surface profiling
- Main-wrinkle depth −20%, volume −23%, roughness −16%
- On the placebo half, no significant change in wrinkle area, depth or roughness
Beneath the surface: in a second study by the same maker, in 28 women, the fibre network just beneath the skin's surface beside the eye was less fragmented, 13% ahead of the placebo side after 2 months.

Before
After 12 weeks
Fine lines reduced vs placebo from week 8 (93 women, 12 weeks)
Palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 (the original Matrixyl®)
Fine Lines Reduced vs Placebo in 12 Weeks
In a 12-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 93 women aged 35 to 55 applied a moisturiser with 3 ppm palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 to one half of the face and the same moisturiser without it to the other, twice a day.
- Wrinkles and fine lines reduced more than with the placebo moisturiser, by image analysis and by expert graders, in the crow's-feet area and the cheek
- Significant from week 8, and still at week 12, at the trial's p ≤ 0.10 threshold
- A small effect, honestly reported; no percentage was published
Pentapeptide-4 is the original Matrixyl®. Our Matrixyl 3000 Firming Serum contains it; the Pro-Collagen Firming Cream does not.

Before
After 12 weeks
Firmer, denser-looking skin (face-cream study, 71 women)
Copper peptide (GHK-Cu)
Denser, Firmer-Looking Skin in 12 Weeks
In a 12-week study of a copper-peptide face cream in 71 women, the reported results were firmer, clearer-looking skin, fewer fine lines, shallower wrinkles, and denser, thicker skin.
New collagen in 7 of 10 people: in a one-month biopsy study of four creams on thigh skin, ten people per cream, 7 of 10 people using a copper-binding peptide cream showed new collagen, against 5 of 10 with vitamin C, 5 of 10 with melatonin and 4 of 10 with tretinoin. A count of people; the creams were not tested against each other.
The face-cream study was presented at a dermatology meeting in 2002 and is known from published reviews (Pickart et al., 2015; Mortazavi et al., 2024). More in our copper peptide research summary.

What Does Collagen Do in a Cream?
Collagen in a cream is a moisturizing ingredient: it holds water at the skin's surface for a smoother, plumper-looking finish. Skin lets through compounds under about 500 daltons, a measure of molecular weight (Bos and Meinardi, 2000). Native and soluble collagen weigh 30,000 to over 1,000,000 (CIR Expert Panel, 2022), so they stay on top as a film that locks in moisture. Hydrolyzed collagen is small enough for some of it to reach the skin's outer layer (Aguirre-Cruz et al., 2020).
In a four-week study of 23 people with very dry skin, a research cream combining hydrolyzed collagen with hyaluronic acid and proteoglycan raised hydration by 83% and cut water loss by a third, against their skin at the start (Lee et al., 2021).
Our Pro-Collagen Firming Cream contains all three forms: native, soluble and hydrolyzed collagen.

Collagen Cream or Collagen Serum?
For collagen itself, choose a cream. Collagen molecules are too large for a light serum to carry usefully, so both our collagen products are creams, where collagen can sit on the skin as a moisture-holding layer. That is why we don't make a collagen serum.
A serum does a different job: it carries small, active ingredients into your routine. Our Matrixyl 3000 Firming Serum and Copper Peptide (GHK-Cu) 2% Renewal Serum use signal peptides associated with the skin's own collagen activity.
Best of both: apply a peptide serum first, then seal it in with a collagen cream. At night, the PDRN Collagen Night Cream pairs hydrolyzed collagen with PDRN and copper peptide in one jar.

Matrixyl 3000: Signal Peptides for Deep Wrinkles
Matrixyl® 3000 is a pair of signal peptides, palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, developed by the French company Sederma to firm the look of skin and smooth wrinkles. In Sederma's 2-month study, the area taken up by deep wrinkles fell by 39% on the treated half of the face, while the placebo half showed no significant change.
You'll find it in both our Matrixyl 3000 Firming Serum and our Pro-Collagen Firming Cream. The serum adds palmitoyl pentapeptide-4, the original Matrixyl®; the cream adds real collagen.

Copper Peptide GHK-Cu: Firmer, Smoother-Looking Skin
GHK-Cu is a copper peptide your own body makes, and in a double-blind trial a GHK-Cu serum reduced crow's-feet wrinkle volume by 24.1% in 8 weeks, against 15.0% with the plain serum base (the Badenhorst 2016 trial). It is valued for a firmer, more elastic, smoother and plumper-looking complexion, and an independent 2026 systematic review (Mokhtar et al., 2026) concluded that it reduces wrinkle volume and depth compared with controls, while noting that well-designed clinical trials are still few.
You'll find it in our Copper Peptide (GHK-Cu) 2% Renewal Serum, and as copper tripeptide-1 in our PDRN Collagen Night Cream.

How to Use Collagen Cream and Serum
Morning and evening, for at least 8 weeks: the time the peptide studies above took to measure their results. As with any new product, patch-test first.

1. Cleanse
Use a gentle cleanser, then pat your skin dry.

2. Peptide Serum
Press three or four drops into face and neck: Matrixyl 3000 Firming Serum in the morning, Copper Peptide (GHK-Cu) 2% Renewal Serum in the evening.

3. Collagen Cream
Seal in the serum: Pro-Collagen Firming Cream in the morning, PDRN Collagen Night Cream at night.

4. SPF in the Morning
Finish every morning with a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher.
Collagen Cream Questions
Can collagen cream really firm skin?
It can give skin a visibly firmer, smoother finish by holding moisture at the surface. Larger collagen molecules form a moisture-retaining film, and small hydrolyzed collagen peptides reach the skin's outer layer. Paired with signal peptides such as Matrixyl 3000 and GHK-Cu, which are associated with the skin's own collagen activity, a collagen cream can support a firmer look over the weeks.
Does collagen cream penetrate the skin?
One form does, in part. Skin lets through molecules under about 500 daltons. Native and soluble collagen are hundreds of times larger, so they stay on the surface as a moisture-holding film. Hydrolyzed collagen is cut into small peptides, and some of it reaches the skin's outer layer, where it helps hold water.
Do you sell a collagen serum?
No, and on purpose. Collagen molecules are too large for a light serum to carry usefully, so both our collagen products are creams: the Pro-Collagen Firming Cream and the PDRN Collagen Night Cream. Our serums carry smaller ingredients instead. The Matrixyl 3000 Firming Serum uses signal peptides associated with the skin's own collagen activity; the words "Pro Collagen" on its label refer to those peptides, not to collagen in the bottle.
What should I look for in a collagen cream for my face?
Three ingredients, each with its own job: collagen itself (native, soluble or hydrolyzed) and a humectant such as hyaluronic acid hold water at the skin's surface, and a signal peptide such as Matrixyl 3000 is the ingredient with the wrinkle results above. We know of no study that tested all three together, so read this as what each one does, not as a proven formula. Our Matrixyl 3000 Pro-Collagen Firming Cream has all three: a triple collagen complex, both Matrixyl 3000 peptides and hyaluronic acid. For night, the PDRN Collagen Night Cream pairs hydrolyzed collagen with PDRN and copper peptide.
Should I use collagen cream in the morning or at night?
Both. Use the Pro-Collagen Firming Cream in the morning, under your SPF, and the PDRN Collagen Night Cream in the evening. Apply either one over a peptide serum to seal it in.
How soon will I see results?
The moisturizing film starts working from the first application, so skin can look smoother the same day. The peptide results build over time and vary from person to person: the Matrixyl 3000 and copper peptide studies measured theirs after 8 to 12 weeks of twice-daily use.
Is it safe to use collagen cream every day?
Yes, both our collagen creams are made for daily use. The two Matrixyl 3000 peptides in them were assessed as safe in cosmetics by the independent Cosmetic Ingredient Review panel (Johnson et al., 2018). As with any new product, patch-test first on a small area of skin, and stop using it if your skin stings, reddens or itches; if a reaction does not settle, speak to a pharmacist or doctor.
Both creams contain ingredients of animal origin: collagen in the Pro-Collagen Firming Cream, and salmon-derived PDRN in the PDRN Collagen Night Cream. If you are allergic to fish or other animal proteins, contact us before you use them.
